MAKEEATSELL

I have made a lot of hot sauce and have burned through a lot of blenders doing it…literally! Some last longer than others and some seem like they are built to last a week. We put together this guide so you don’t need to waste time trying every blender until you find the best one for hot sauce.

There are many different brand name blenders available but the best blenders for hot sauce should rely on 8 different criteria when making a purchase. Hot sauce is a unique condiment where the processing may make more of a difference than the ingredients used. Wattage, container size, container material, multiple speed settings, portability, pricing, and blade type all play a role in the selecting the best blender for hot sauce.

8 Criteria for purchasing a blender

We put together the most important items to be addressed in the best blender for hot sauce and came up with 8 criteria that a blender should have for making hot sauce. Our focus for this guide is tabletop or countertop blenders but see the Blender Buyers Guide for more on commercial blenders or handheld blenders.

8 Criteria for purchasing a blender
1) Wattage 600 watts or more
2) Container size2 quarts to 1 gallon
3) Container materialGlass
4) Multiple speed settingYes, at least 3
5) RPM’sAt least 10,000 RPM
6) PortabilityYes, countertop model
7) Blade typeMetal
8) Price$300 or under

1) Wattage

A blender used to make hot sauce should have a wattage of at least 600 watts or more to blend the contents into a thin, sauce like condiment. More powerful blenders will usually have a larger container size and will be more expensive and are generally not needed unless you are making sauce on a commercial level.

Not only can they rotate the blades at higher speeds, and handle solid ingredients but more powerful wattage can stand up to the rigorous everyday tasks of commercial processing.

2) Container size

We recommend a blender with a container size of at least 1 gallon. A larger container size will make a larger batch of hot sauce but will also be heavier and more difficult to handle. Smaller blenders with a container size of about a quart are great for small “hot sauce experiments” where there will little to no waste. Many blenders with a containers size 1 gallon will only require a quart of hot sauce to blend it properly.

3) Container material

A clear glass container is the best for making hot sauce because they are durable, scratch resistant and give the ability to “see” the sauce getting blended. Nowadays there are only 3 types of materials that are used to make the containers for blenders: glass, plastic, or metal.

Container Highlights
Glass· Durable
· Easy to clean
· Clear view of sauce
Plastic· Prone to scratches
· Crack easily
· Not as durable
Metal· No visual
· Very durable
· Difficult to clean due to size

4) Multiple speed settings

Multiple speed settings aren’t always necessary once you have a recipe that you regularly make unless the recipe requires different speed settings. Any high-quality appliance will have multiple speeds but giving yourself options will allow the following options:

Slow mix – 1,500 RPM’s

A slow mix setting may not be nesseccesry for hot sauce recipes. This setting may only be used to pre mix ingredeinets for the purpose of marinading or fermenting.

Puree – 7,500 RPM’s

Having a puree setting is great for making a hot pepper mash to be used for fermentation purposes. Cutting produce by hand is a thing of the past.

Blend – 10,000

Your blender must have a setting that performs at least 10,000 RPM’s per minute if you expect a hot sauce with a thin consistency.

High speeds – 15,000 or more

High speed settings on a blender all the ingredients of a hot sauce like garlic, onions, peppers (stems and seeds included) to be crushed and blended smoothly. Straining can be a common practice for making hot sauce but avoiding unnecessary steps will increase production.

5) RPM’s

RPM’s or Revolutions Per Minute are different then wattage. RPM can simply mean getting to a thin consistency sauce faster states Gadget Review and doesn’t always refer to the amount of power a blender has. Choose a blender with at least 15,000 RPM for all your hot sauce blending needs.

6) Portability

Blenders come in 3 classifications relating to size: tabletop, floor mounted, or handheld. Usually only larger, commercial grade blenders will be floor mounted and this usually means they are bigger, more powerful and more expensive. Floor mounted blenders are typically what is used when making large batches of hot sauce on a commercial level. Handheld or emulsion blenders come in an array of sizes but require a more “hands on” approach to blending.

7) Type of blade

Most blenders have metal blades. Certain types of food processors that only chop produce will have plastic blades. These are not as effective against harder items like nuts or other items needed in a hot sauce recipe.

Some hot sauce recipes may include the stems. According to Farm Steady the entire plant of the capsicum annum (nightshade) family is edible, but this doesn’t mean you need to include it in a recipe. The stems are fibrous and tough so if they are included in your recipe metal blades are a must.

8) Price

Cost and budget are the two most common contradictions for any purchase. Top of the line products usually cost more but the amount we are able to spend is usually much less. Fortunately, you can get a high-quality top of the line blender for under $300.

You can get a high-quality top of the line blender for under $300

Can’t any blender make hot sauce?

While it is true that almost any blender can mix ingredients together to get a thin consistency sauce, there are some intricacies to the equipment that should be noted that are particular to hot sauce. Special recipes take delicate processing and knowing what a blender can do before you purchase it will benefit your hot sauce significantly.

What you get for the price

Like many products…you get what you pay for. The same goes for a blender. However, spending thousands of dollars on a new blender for your hot sauce business isn’t really necessary. A great blender for all your hot sauce making needs can be purchased for under $300.
